Imac or PC, whats your thoughts?

I currently hav a HP 512mb 160gb hard disk sfx200 g-force with a 20inc. lcd but i'm having a few problems with viruses and I'm getting frustrated so i am contemplating getting a Imac 20" 2.4ghz with 1-2gb and 250gb HDD. I'm a big ipod user and love that but i've never used a MAC and was wondering what the major diff. where and if the MAC's are all their cracked up to be.Or should I just send the HP to the doctor and save the cash

If you are going to get a new computer, the first question you need to ask yourself is what (Needs) are you using a computer for ie. Websurfing, chatting, school or business (using the office suite)-playing music, running DVDs etc a simple computer is all you need is a very simple computer. If you need graphics, photo editing, film editing, music, mixing want to make your own website without learning programming, the Mac is an excellent and the computer of preference. If you need gaming that is high level-A PC is the way to go.

If need to buy a new computer, I would go with the iMac. The iMac can use bootcamp and allow you to add XP or Vista with the Mac OS. It also requires less RAM and processing power to run the OS than Vista or XP. Because it has a 64 bit OS and also work with 32 bit software, the Mac can use up to 4 GB RAM whereas a PC can only use GB RAM.A Mac comes with iLife software that PC's doesn't have. Safari is better than IE7, Mac Matte screens are better than glossy PC screens that reflect, a Mac is simpler to use and when you buy one, you will receive 90 days of tech support for free. The technicians are in the US, speak English as their first language and will answer any question you have on the software or hardware-try that with Microsoft. Quicktime is also a lot better than WMP. Apples are the top selling computers to College students.

The Mac has a better screen and is simpler to use and takes very little time to learn to use

That said, as a person who recently switched to a MacBook Pro and trying to help you. My advise to you is if you think your computer can still suit your your needs, and all you have are Virus issues; I would try to load anti-virus software and try to remove the virus or take it to a local computer shop and have them do it for you. After you do that, I would try to max the RAM if you have a PC. If you do that, for a minimal cost, your current computer should be running like new and much faster. That is the route I would take. If you feel you have out grown your computer and there is no way your current computer can satisfy your needs I agree with the iMac

The run of thumb is to back up all your important data and max out your computer until you run it into the ground.

iPod trouble?

I have an ipod 5.5 video that was working perfectly fine, except the select button was smashed to a side. So i decided to buy a new scroll wheel and button and replace it. I followed direction from a How to Video. Once i put everything back togethere, i get the iPod sad face. I freaked out. then i opened the ipod again and moved the hdd ribbon, and again i got that. So i tried putting it into Disk Mode and it worked like that. I connected it to Mac, although i have it formated to windows. on the mac it says i need to restore it. Now im not losing any music, i still have it, but i have important documents on it becauses i used it as a external drive. I've tried using all these programs for recovery on my PC but the ipod freezes when i try to open it.
I don't know what to do, the PC doesn;t recognize it to restore it, but i really need those files.
If i restore it on the MAC being PC formated, will i still lose the chance to recover the files using a program like "rescue my ipod"?

Pcs and Macs use different file systems and must completely erase a drive to convert them to work for the other one, I wouldn't restore it using your mac because it will will write over all PC formatted space. think: sandbox with drawings (your files) then some kid (Mac) smooths out the sand

Laptop computers are exceedingly more like people. Just like us, we get tired, and over time, without rest, and a little preventative maintenance, we tend to get a little tired and less efficient. So it's no surprise that the longer you use your computer, the slower it can tend to get. You may be thinking that the computer or the hardware is just poor, but the reality is that over time, with so many processes going on at any time, gradually, the computer will get bogged down and fragmented. Don't you slow down when you got too much going on? And when you don't get time to clear your mind, doesn't it get worse?

One strategy for improving things is back to basics: back up your computer files, reformat your hard disk, then reinstall the OS from scratch and the key applications you use. This can take a few days, and you should have a professional do it. But in all actuality, this is something that should be done once a year.

Here are 5 other things you can do to improve your laptop computer speed.

Step number 1: Free up disk space

By freeing disk space, you can improve the performance of your computer. Your computer should have a disk clean up tool. The disk cleanup tool helps you free up space on your hard disk. Basically the tool identifies files you can delete to free up space without affecting your computer.

The tool will remove temporary Internet files, remove downloaded program files no longer necessary, empty the Recycle Bin, remove Windows temporary files, remove optional Windows components that you don't use, remove installed programs that you no longer use.

The temporary internet files can really help speed things up when you remove them. Until the are deleted, they are cached everytime you open your browser.

Step number 2: Speed up access to data

Disk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system. When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk when the file is opened to piece it back together. The response time can be significantly longer. When it has to rebuild everytime. This is very inefficient for the computer.

Your computer comes with a disk defragmenter that will take care of this. There are some key times when you should defragment. This includes regularly every month, when you add a large number of files, when your free disk space gets to less than 15%, and when you install new programs.

Step number 3: Detect and repair disk errors

Your computer comes with an error checker utility. Often, as you use your computer, you will have a few sectors go bad. These bad sectors will slow your computer as your hard drive tries to write to them, but is incapable due to the errors. This slows down things. YOu shoud run this utility once a week, as it will scan to find errors and misplaced files.

Step number 4: Protect your computer against spyware

Spyware collects personal information from you without you knowing it, and without your permission. From the Web sites you visit to usernames and passwords, spyware can put you and your confidential information at risk. In addition to privacy concerns, spyware can hamper your computer's performance. To combat spyware, you may want to place an anti virus, anti spyware software program on your computer to ward off any attacks which will compromise your files, and slow your computer.

Step number 5: Turn your computer of and restart

In the same way that you need to sleep at night and get a fresh start, you should turn your computer off at least once a day if you use if often. Restarting will clear out the cache and give the computer a fresh start. It is also a good idea to turn off your computer instead of leaving it on all the time in order to extend the life of your laptop computer.
